Recently, when I missed a call, I found the sounds settings of the iPhone were at zero level. I am certain I never set them to that level. At first I suspected a coy trick of Apple to f*ck with jailbreakers. But once again, I found it was a known bug that non-jailbreakers were also having.
The solution that has thus far worked for me is to do this:
When your phone is locked [sic: sleeping], press the home button twice to bring up the iPod controls, adjust the volume up there and then the ring volume will stay high. This is a work around to a bug and you may need to do it again after you’ve been listening to music.
