Installing Nintendo ROMs

OK, this one is rather frivolous and I’m not going to belabor it.  If you want to play Nintendo games on your iPhone under emulation, you probably know all about emulator ROMs and where to get them.

A good clear guide is here, but note the ROM installation location change below. You can ignore the whole tactile feedback part if you want. I did.  But here’s a brief summary:

1. Install NES with Cydia

2. Find your ROMs on the internet and extract them, making sure they have the .nes file extension.

3. Connect with SFTP.

4. Install the file.nes ROM files in this path, creating the last two folders if you haven’t done this before on your iPhone:

/User/Media/ROMs/NES/

You don’t need to be reminded that paths are case sensitive, right?

Note:

The ROM installation location used to be:

/var/root/Media/ROMs/NES/

This has changed since firmware 2.0, so ignore what the linked guide says about that.

5. Permissions shouldn’t be an issue but just to be sure set permissions to 755 or 777 for that folder.

6. Reboot your phone and you should be good to go.
